Caberent and Merlot are cultivted on the terrain in front of the house, on soils of Pliocene origin and of sedimentary formation characterized by yellow loamy sands layered with clay – a soil type commonly called tufa – in which large numbers of marine fossils have been recovered. Sangiovese, instead, has been planted on soils of Eocene origin created by the erosion of a limestone rock known locally as “albarese”.
The various vineyard parcels are located at an altitiude 825 feet (250 meters) above sea level and enjoy a southwestern exposure. The vineyard rows are oriented from north to south in order to capture to the maximum extent and as homogeneously as possible sunlgith and solar radiation. The local micro-climate is characterized by important temperature swings from daytime warmth to evening and nighttime coolness. Agronomist Robert Lamorgese isi in charge of the vineyard and does not use products with a heavy chemical impact on the vines. In the vineyard, in fact, only organic or organic/mineral fertilizers are utilized, using pharmaceutical products for an agriculture which is ecologically and tossicologically friendly. The products utilized in the annual defense against insect predators are those authorized for an organic viticulture (copper and sulphur).
